Today, I would like to introduce a famous Tsukemen restaurant called “Menya Oto” located in Kitasenju, Adachi-ku, Tokyo.
Since Kitasenju has relatively good access from the city center, I hope you can try it out whenever it’s convenient for you.
Now, Menya Oto is just about a 5-minute walk from Kitasenju Station. The unique feature of this Tsukemen shop is its rich soup based on dried bonito.
As you step inside the shop, you will be greeted by the rich aroma of dried bonito, which will make your stomach growl.
The appearance of the soup looks no different from a typical fish and pork-based Tsukemen soup, but as soon as you take a sip, you will be struck by its exquisite taste, which is not too heavy, and has a subtle blend of fish, pork, and dried bonito umami flavors.
I think the soup here is unparalleled as it manages to maintain its richness without being too overpowering.
In most cases, dried bonito Tsukemen soup tends to have a somewhat unpleasant smell, but there was none of that here. The flavor of the soup and the noodles, which are not too thick or too thin, are perfectly matched and you can even appreciate the aroma and sweetness of the noodles by themselves.
In my opinion, this is the best Tsukemen I have ever tasted in terms of soup, noodles, ambiance, and service, which I could not fault at all.
Now, let me talk a little bit about the quality of service. The shop is one of the few that provides hot towels, which is a nice touch for wiping your mouth after the meal.
In addition, they provide paper aprons, so you don’t have to worry about getting your clothes stained while enjoying the delicious Tsukemen.
Furthermore, this shop will even reheat your soup for you, which is important for Tsukemen since the soup tends to lose its flavor once it cools down. This means you can enjoy hot Tsukemen anytime you want.
I highly recommend you to try the best Tsukemen here. Thank you for reading this article.
